cyclone
about
Cyclone consists of footage provided by The Prelinger Archive, a public domain source of video and film material, in this case two educational films for psychiatrists, psychologists and welfare-workers in the 1950s, interspersed by additional NASA footage. From these different sources I created a portrait of the descent of a man confronted with relational problems, a couple of events that eventually lead to a tragic decision. The music, words and the footage were composed at the same time, thus colliding, and push each element in the same direction. The overall mood is enforced by those element, to provide an as strong as possible feel of descent.
The poem, 'About the stone and you', spoken by the woman-voice of Google translator, was written and translated by Roelof Broekman as part of his book of poems with the title: AZOTUM. Azotum means: nitrogen. |
